Only four pigeons were found alive in an inspection at a home in Qormi
Officers found over fifty dead racing pigeons inside a pigeon loft during an inspection in Qormi after receiving reports of animal cruelty.
Only four pigeons were found alive during the inspection. They were immediately taken for veterinary examination, given the necessary care, and transferred to a safe environment to recover.
The inspections were carried out in Santa Venera and Qormi by the Animal Welfare Directorate and the Environmental Health Directorate, during which officers also found a large number of lovebirds and pigeons suffering from poor conditions and neglect.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the directorate assured the public that the animals’ owners will face legal proceedings.
It also urged the public to report any suspected animal neglect or cruelty without delay on freephone 153 ext. 7, so immediate action can be taken.
