Check out in which streets excavation, demolition is prohibited during summer
Authorities publish list of areas where demolition and excavation works are prohibited for summer months • Building and Construction Authority urges members of the public to report works in breach of the restrictions by calling 138
Demolition and excavation works will be prohibited in designated tourist areas between 15 June and 30 September 2026, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) announced.
The measures coordinated by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and MTA, are intended to reduce the disruption caused by construction activity to residents, tourists and accommodation establishments in areas that experience high tourist numbers during the summer months.
In a statement, the MTA explained that the measures are being implemented through the enforcement of Subsidiary Legislation 623.08, which restricts demolition and excavation works in specified localities and streets identified by the MTA. These phases of construction are considered particularly disruptive due to the noise, dust and other impacts they can have on surrounding properties.
The BCA said members of the public may report any demolition or excavation works carried out in breach of the restrictions by calling 138. Reports can be made both during and outside office hours.
A full list of the localities and streets covered by the restrictions is available here.
