Temperatures are forecast to climb to 33°C on Thursday, 4.2°C above the climatic average for June, as a ridge of high pressure extends across the Mediterranean towards Libya.

Night-time temperatures are expected to fall to around 22°C, still 2.4°C above the average minimum for the month.

According to the Met Office, daytime temperatures will remain above 30°C through the weekend.

Despite the sharp rise, the conditions will not constitute a heatwave, which requires maximum temperatures to exceed the monthly average by at least 5°C for three consecutive days.

Tuesday, 16 June, will start rather cloudy, with light winds and temperatures ranging between 21°C and 29°C.

Sunnier conditions are expected on Wednesday as the wind turns north-westerly, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 30°C and a minimum of 22°C.

Temperatures will peak at 33°C on Thursday amid hot and sunny conditions, although a west-north-westerly wind may provide some relief.

Friday will remain hot, with a maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum of 22°C, as the wind turns north-north-westerly.

Sunny weather will persist over the weekend. Temperatures will range between 22°C and 31°C on both Saturday and Sunday, with variable winds on Saturday and a light west-north-westerly wind on Sunday.
