A scaffolding structure that was being dismantled collapsed in Triq Reggie Miller, Gżira, prompting the immediate dispatch of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) at the scene.

According to a joint statement issued by OHSA and BCA, preliminary investigations indicate that the scaffolding collapsed while dismantling works were underway. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

"The contractor and the developer had obtained the necessary permits from the relevant authorities for the works being undertaken," the authorities confirmed.

As a result of the incident, the road has been temporarily closed to traffic after the metal structure collapsed into the middle of the street, blocking access.

An operation is currently underway, under the supervision of both authorities, to remove the scaffolding and reopen the road to traffic.
