The Malta Police Force has already surpassed the amount of cocaine seized in 2025 by the first half of this year.

In figures released by the Home Affairs Ministry, authorities confirmed the seizure of 166 kilos of cocaine, 19 kilos of khat, and 2,088 ecstasy pills between January and June. The amount of ecstasy confiscated in just six months has already surpassed the total volume seized throughout 2025, while khat seizures have already matched last year’s full-year total.

Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield announced the statistics during a workshop organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Bedingfield praised the professionalism and commitment of Malta’s drug squad. He credited their proactive efforts for dismantling organised criminal networks and preventing large quantities of drugs from entering local communities.

He also noted the challenges posed by Malta’s geography. While the Mediterranean is a vital hub for international trade, he noted that criminal organisations frequently exploit these same routes for trafficking. Bedingfield called for intensified international cooperation, including enhanced intelligence sharing and joint investigations between countries and global institutions.

Bedingfield maintained that prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation are the main pillars of the national strategy to protect vulnerable citizens, particularly young people, from drug abuse.
