Fearne strengthens Malta-UK parliamentary ties during London visit

Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Fearne met with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, during an official visit to London.
Discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Malta and the United Kingdom.
The meeting, held in the presence of Malta’s High Commissioner to the UK, Stephen Montefort, highlighted the historic and close ties between the two countries, as well as opportunities to further enhance cooperation between their respective parliaments.
Discussions also covered ways to increase exchanges and initiatives involving Maltese and British parliamentarians, with both sides recognising the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration.
During his visit to the British parliament, Fearne also met members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Malta, co-chaired by MP Kevin Bonavia and Baroness Clare Gerada.
The meeting focused on the relationship between Malta and the UK and the APPG’s role in promoting shared interests and supporting closer cooperation between the two countries.
Fearne welcomed the renewed activity of the APPG on Malta and expressed his appreciation for the group’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
Areas of common interest discussed included education, youth mobility, migration, international security, and European and multilateral cooperation.
The minister’s visit also included a meeting with members of the Maltese community in the UK at Malta’s High Commission in London.
Fearne thanked Maltese nationals living in the UK for their contribution and for their efforts in preserving Malta’s identity, culture and links with their home country.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain and deepen the longstanding relationship between Malta and the United Kingdom.
