Man, 74, dead after being trapped between digger and truck

The 74-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene, when police discovered him trapped between a truck and a digger

A 74-year-old man from Mellieħa has died after an accident in Sqaq tal-Kalkara, Dingli.

The police were informed of the accident at around 10:15am on Friday, where, according to preliminary investigations the victim was unloading a digger from a truck when, for some reason, he became trapped between them.

Police spokesperson Brandon Pisani, the Civil Protection Department and a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital were summoned to the site, however, the man was certified dead at the scene.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has since opened an inquiry.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
