Armed Forces deployed in Swieqi to boost night-time security

The Armed Forces of Malta has deployed personnel in Swieqi to work alongside the Police, strengthening the security presence in the locality during the night.

In a Facebook post, Galea Pace said the Council and residents had been pushing for this step and had now reached it.

He said that as promised, work would continue to make Swieqi a place where residents feel safe and can live in peace inside their homes. He added that he would like neighbouring localities to adopt the same formula so that together they could remove this problem from residential areas once and for all.

"Residents deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhood and, above all, they deserve to be able to sleep peacefully in their own homes," Galea Pace said.

The deputy mayor explained that this was another step he had been pushing for over the past months, together with the Swieqi Local Council and residents.

He said the increased presence of the Police and Armed Forces sent a clear message that antisocial behaviour in residential areas would not be ignored, and he hoped the approach would be extended to neighbouring localities, noting that these problems did not stop at Swieqi's borders.

Galea Pace thanked the Police and the Armed Forces of Malta for their work, cooperation and commitment on the ground, describing the deployment as another step forward and adding that the Council's work does not stop here.
