Abela discusses extending Delta's New York route into 2027

Prime Minister Robert Abela has discussed extending the new Delta Malta-New York flight route into 2027.

"Our objective is clear: to build a stronger and more competitive economy that creates better opportunities for people, businesses and future generations," Abela said during his time in New York, where he met with senior representatives of Delta Air Lines and BlackRock to discuss air links and investment in Malta.

At a meeting with Delta vice-president Scott Jordan, Abela discussed the New York-JFK to Malta route, which began operating three times a week in June. Its average seat load factor was 84% up to 21 September.

The two discussed extending the route into 2027, as well as further promoting Malta in the American market. Abela said the direct link was already supporting tourism and business while opening up opportunities for connections with the US market.

In a separate meeting, BlackRock representatives discussed further investment in Malta. Abela highlighted the economy’s performance, the country’s stability and efforts to attract investment in strategic and innovative sectors.

The meetings form part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Malta’s connectivity and attract investment in strategic and innovative sectors. 

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that Malta must remain a credible and competitive partner for international investors, while ensuring that the investment attracted to the country continues to create quality jobs and new opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan workers and businesses.
