Police investigate video of Maltese children with weapons

YouTube footage of Maltese boys carrying and using firearms is currently being investigated by the police; lawyer claims video breaks all weapon laws.

The police told Illum newspaper that they were investigating video footage uploaded on YouTube featuring Maltese boys carrying and firing weapons.

The video, entitled 'National Treasure', was uploaded on YouTube on 7 January 2012.

The amateur footage could more than likely be seen as children simply playing but the children appear to be carrying firearms with the sole intention of using them.

Illum discussed the video and use of weapons with Arthur Azzopardi, a lawyer specialising in Criminal law.

Judging by the footage viewed, Azzopardi said that the weapons were most likely real and said the video broke all laws regarding weapons unless permission was given by the Police Commission, "which I highly doubt".

I HAVE FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS BENN COMPLIANING ABOUT THESE GUNS AVAILABLE TO CHILDREN. THEY ARE MAINLY AIRGUNS THAT MAY BE SOLD LEGALLY AND WITHOUT LICENCE FROM ANY SHOP INCLUDING TOY SHOPS, THE PLASTIC PELLETS THAT ARE GIVEN WITH THESE GUNS CAN EASILY BE CHANGED TO METAL PELLETS AND THAT IS THE TRUE SCARE OF THESE GUNS ESPECIALY BEING IN THE HANDS OF UNMATURE CHILDREN OR PEOPLE WHO'S HEALTH IS DEPENDANT MAINLY ON DRUGS. MY SON USED TO GO TO SAN ANDREA SCHOOL, HE AND A LOT OF HIS FRIENDS WENT TO A NEARBY HUNTERS SHOP LOCATED ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF MOSTA TO PURCHASE THESE AIR GUNS, EVEN THOUGH I CONFISCATED MY SONS SO CALLED TOY GUN, HE THAN MANAGED TO OBTAIN ONE FROM HIS FRIENDS, YES THIS IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM THAT IS ALREADY IN MY OPINION TOO LATE TO SOLVE BUT IF MALTA PUSHES IN NEW LAWS AGAINST THESE AIR GUNS AND YES OF COURSE THE REAL GUNS THAN MAYBE THESE KIDS WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE THEY PURCHASE ONE.
