AD’s elected councillors ‘will take good care of residents’

The Green Party has invited "residents of goodwill to vote for the councils that truly serve them"

AD's chairperson Michael Briguglio thanked all AD's councillors contesting the local council elections on Saturday.
AD's chairperson Michael Briguglio thanked all AD's councillors contesting the local council elections on Saturday.

"Alternattiva Demokratika's elected candidates will ensure that local councils will truly belong to residents," said Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson and Sliema local candidate.

Brigulio was speaking during a press conference held in Balluta, St Julians this afternoon.

"On 10 March, I invite all residents of goodwill to vote for the councils that truly serve and represent them. I invite residents to vote for councils that are not over-ridden by lobbying groups, such as big developers who are destroying our towns and villages.

"I invite residents to vote for councils that are not dominated by partisan bickering and personal feuds."

Brigulio added: "As AD chairperson, and Sliema candidate, I would like to thank the other AD candidates, who have also chosen to get down to the job: Ralph Cassar (Attard); Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer (St Julian's); Simon Galea (St Paul's Bay); Solange Sant Fournier (Swieqi); Leonard Schembri (Gzira); Michael Bajada (Munxar); Henrik Piski (Qormi); Robert Callus (Mosta); and Andre' Vella (Balzan).

Meanwhile, Ralph Cassar, AD's Secretary General, said: "Local councils should have full cooperation by all the ministries and authorities to implement their decisions and to enforce basic civic duties such as bye-laws and laws against littering and noise pollution that residents have to put up with due to commercial outlets.

"Local councils are finding it very difficult to enforce laws, since they depend completely either on local wardens, who only enforce traffic rules for a couple of hours a day, or else on the police - who are either understaffed or are not interested in enforcing laws related to nuisance, littering and other infringements which they consider unimportant.

"The election of green councillors next Saturday will ensure that ministries and authorities are publicly called to respect local council decisions."

Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, AD local council candidate for St Julian's said: "After I heard all the debates about the local council elections I urge all the voters to vote for Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party, because we are not obsessed with bickering with other parties, unlike PNPL which seem to be at each other's throat.

"Politics is there to make a difference in our lives. We value open spaces, safer roads and more accessibility."

I hope to work with Michael Briguglio of AD - and other genuinely motivated councilors - in a fresh Local Council to bring more order and tranquility to Sliema. Please show your concern for our future. The Sliema Residents Association is a purely voluntary and non-political movement dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents.
