‘I should decide whether to contest the elections or not’ – Franco Debono
The Nationalist backbencher insists election ban should be revoked, 'I should decide whether to contest or not'
Backbencher Franco Debono has been holding several meetings with the Prime Minister to discuss the reforms he has proposed.
According to Debono, the two have been discussing several issues, including the proposed bill on party financing and the reform in the Police Corps.
In comments to Sunday newspaper Illum, Debono wouldn't comment on whether there were ongoing maneuverers within the party to revoke the PN's executive committee decision to ban him from contesting the elections.
He however insisted that the decision should be up to him and no one else.
"Whether to contest or not should be my decision. However, the PN should be wise enough to realise that I'm a victim of the political system in our country," Debono said.
He added that those who push for reforms end up facing closed doors.
