November 2012, second warmest since 1922

Malta Airport MetOffice says November 2012 was the second warmest November since 1922, with an average temperature of 19.4°C.

The Malta Airport MetOffice said that with an average temperature of 19.4°C, November 2012 was the second warmest November since 1922.

November was 2.4°C warmer than the climate mean and on three consecutive days (4 - 6 November) the maximum temperature was 5°C or more above the average.

The Malta Airport MetOffice said this November, the maximum temperature was always above the average, except for the last two days. 

The warmest day was 6 November when a temperature of 26.4°C was measured at Malta Airport. However this does not exceed the highest temperature ever recorded in November at Malta Airport, which is that of 28.2°C registered on 6th November 1998.

November nights, with an average temperature of 16.5°C, were also warmer by 2.6°C than the climate mean. The coolest night last month was the 26th when the thermometer dropped to a minimum at 13.2°C. The lowest temperature on record for November was on 23rd November 1995 when the thermometer read only 5°C.

Last month thunder was heard on five days - the 15, 18, 19, 20, and 30 November. This is equal to one more day than the mean for November. No hail or fog was observed.

The mean sea temperature was 22.5oC which is warmer than the November mean of 20.3oC.

The monthly mean relative humidity reached 76%, which is almost equal to the climate November average.

The total rainfall measured last month at Malta Airport in Luqa amounted to 61.6 mm. This is 18.4 mm less than the November mean. The highest total rainfall for November was 420.3 mm in 1999. The highest daily amount of rainfall registered at Malta Airport occurred on 18th November with a total of 22.6 mm.

Last November we had a mean of 6.2 hours of bright sunshine a day. This is close to the November average. The brightest day was the 9th with 10.9 hours of sunshine, whilst the dullest was on the 15th with only 24 minutes of sunshine. In total we had 187 hours of sunshine.

The mean wind speed in November was 8.3 knots and this is less than the climate mean of 8.8 knots. The highest gust was 35 knots from the South SouthEast direction and occurred on the 28th. The most frequent direction was the West by North direction.
