Labour MEP Louis Grech was recently elected as Labour's deputy leader after ex-deputy leader Anglu Farrugia's controversial resignation a handful of days ago.

Weekly newspaper Illum reports that newly-elected Labour deputy leader Louis Grech is expected to contest the coming election in two districts.

Illum also reports that Grech has so far opted to contest in the 1st District, a district that saw a majority of three Labour MPs in the last election.

Grech's choice to contest in the 1st District will have repercussions on those floaters who had distanced themselves from the party following ex-deputy leader Anglu Farrugia's highly-criticised performance on debate programme Xarabank.

The report also says that Labour's goal is to maintain its majority within the 1st District, and that Grech's choice to contest in the 1st District is already causing concern to other Labour candidates within the same district.

Among them are Jose Herrera, Deo Debattista, and Luciano Micallef, who are Labour's district favourites.

It is expected that Grech's choice for second district will be in a Nationalist district where Labour thinks it can use Grech's appeal factor to maximum effect.
