New autumn hunting, trapping seasons announced
The new Autumn Hunting Season on land will run for five whole months between 1 September 2010 and 31 January 2011, while hunting of song thrush and golden plover will be permitted for 15 days in September following an unspecified derogation.
Hunting can only take place two hours before sunrise and two hours after sunset between Mondays and Saturdays. During Sundays and Public Holidays, hunting can only take place from two hours before sunrise till 1 pm.
The Government also announced that as a protection measure for birds of prey, between 15 September 2010 and 30 September 2010, hunting can only take place till 3 pm.
The season for hunting at sea will be a month shorter, from 1 October 2010 till 31 January 2010.
The Government has also announced that trapping for quail and turtledove will be permitted, according to an unspecified derogation, between 1 September and 30 September 2010, while trapping for song thrush and golden plover will be permitted between 20 October 2010 and 10 January 2011.
The details of the derogation would be announced “in the coming days”, the Government statement.
The dates for the new autumn hunting season were announced following the recommendations of the ORNIS committee.
