Slightly warmer and wetter November

November rainfall reached 182 mm, 102 mm above the monthly norm while the mean temperature was 0.5°C higher than average.

The average temperature of last month was 17.5°C, making it slightly warmer than the usual 17°C average, the Malta International Airport said.

November also saw a total rainfall of 182mm, 102 mm above the monthly norm. The wettest November on record was that of November 1999 when rainfall hit 420.3mm.

The hottest day of the month was the 7th which recorded a temperature of 25.2°C. The hottest November day on record was 28.2°C on 6th November 1982.

Conversely, the 28th was the coldest day of this month with a max temperature of 13.8°C. This followed a period from November 22 to 28, which saw the mean temperature decrease well below the mean due to a series of cold fronts that brought cold air from the northern continent.

Last month thunder was heard on eleven days, which is seven days more than average while hail was observed on the 26th and the 28th.

The mean sea temperature was 22.3°C, 2°C warmer than the norm. Meanwhile, relative humidity reached an average of 72%, a 6% decrease to the average norm.

Meanwhile, the mean monthly wind speed was 8.9 knots which is almost equal to the mean of 8.8 knots. A gust of 43 knots from the West Southwest was recorded on the 5th. The most frequent direction for this month was Southwest by West with 61 hours.

An average of 5.8 hours of daily bright sunshine were recorded during the month, less than the November norm of 6.1 hours. The brightest days were the 6th and 7th with 9.9 hours of sunshine, while the dullest were the 18th and 30th with no sunshine.

In total, Malta had 175.3 hours of bright sunshine this month.
