Following an overwhelming vote earlier today by the European Parliament calling on Malta to amend its citizenship scheme, Nationalist candidate for MEP Stefano Mallia has appealed to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to take note of what was said and to once again undertake discussions with the Opposition.

In a video message posted on Facebook, Mallia expressed his disappointment that Malta had to end up as the focal point of a debate in the European Parliament for all the wrong reasons. He said that this harmed Malta and its economy.

He appealed to the Prime Minister to take a step back and that by doing so he would be showing considerable political maturity. He also said that if consensus can indeed be found together with the Opposition, a very powerful and positive message would be delivered both locally and abroad.

Mallia concluded his appeal by urging the Prime Minister to do what is right for the country.

It is obvious that prospective Nationalist EP candidates are going to do their best to try get some exposure through making such appeals.

Your filibustering is not going to work. Discussions were held. Now it is the time to move forward at full speed.

I think with yesterday action by your Party the debate on citizenship act is closed and ready to be launched. Your party did a lot of harm to Malta. I already stated that I always voted labour but for MEP I always voted for Simon, I use to like his mellow approach, but now My vote goes to Alfred Sant. I am waiting for MEP result from the 4 Nationalist heavy weights ,Zammit Dimech, Mallia, Casa , Messola one has to be left out. Yesterday for the pn supporters Casa and Messola where heros, what about you Stefano, do you think the PN is thinking what I am thinking?

Political maturity my foot. You tried every dirty trick to stop the Prime Minister to do what this country need to pay some of the debts that all of you left in 25 years.SHAME ON YOU.

The voters appeal to MEPs to stick to matters where they actually have a say. Wasting our time and money discussing issues which are wholly outside of the remit of the European Parliament does no one any good. Please stop wasting our money and stick to discussing and negotiating issues where you can make a difference to us, the European citizens, rather than wasting time shuttling from Brussels to Strasbourg and back engaged in endless chit chat.

Sorry Mallia, discussions are over. Time to move on. Please return to your campaign, forsi ma taqax hafna ghan-n*&%!

I did not like it one bit when Joseph Muscat tried to disuade the EU from funding the Marsaskala recycling plant. I dont like the PN's gesture about the IIP either. Politicians should learn to wash dirty clothes inside. Shame on you all!

One asks Mr Stefano Mallia: Who's fault is it that Malta had to end up as the focal point of a debate in the European Parliament for all the wrong reasons? If this harmed Malta and its economy one has to wait and see the results in the very immediate future. The Prime Minister stated that very valid applications for the IIP programme are already coming in.

Well said Stefano. You should get elected because I'm sure that you will work hard for the good of our country.

Why does.n t Mallia tell Busutill to stop harming our country instead? Why is Simon working against us..... to punish us for electing a Labour government?
avatar
Mallia , you form part of the same party that ashamed all of us .what your party did today is the worst thing ever I ever saw !! the maltese people will not and NEVER forget,so please shut up !!!!!!

I don't have anything against this discussion, however, there should be some discussions on eradicating poverty, raising the minimum wage and other social issues that seem to disappear from the public agenda.

Mallia concluded his appeal by urging the Prime Minister to do what is right for the country. That is what the PRIME MINISTER is doing what is right for the country, mallia, you and your party are working against the maltese interests, because you are power hungry.
