Hundreds caught up in GWU strike at Enemalta

Industrial actions at national energy corporation over last two months leave many waiting for service.

Industrial actions ordered last February over human resources inside Enemalta’s credit control have left hundreds of domestic and commercial clients waiting for service from the energy corporation which is still awaiting a decision from the Industrial Tribunal for directives to cease.

Two complainants who spoke to sister newspaper Illum said they were about to move to a new house in April, pending their application for an energy meter. In one case, a family had already terminated their rental contract prior to moving into the new home, but now will be facing the prospect of moving into a house with no electricity.

A Gozitan client said he has invested €8,000 in photovoltaic panels which have not yet been installed into the national energy grid because of the industrial directives. “The strike action has left me waiting for an export meter that has not yet even been processed.
