Actor Narcy Calamatta says divorce-less society is an ‘anomaly’

During an interview with sister newspaper Illum, actor Narcy Calamatta, also known for his leftist ideologies, insists he is in favour of the introduction of divorce in Malta.

Even though Calamatta has been happily married since October 1969, and this year he celebrates his 42nd anniversary, he admits he is in favour of divorce, to the extent he claims a society without divorce creates an anomaly.

“Divorce, in my opinion, is a legal tool which protects children and the weak party in a marriage. Faith has nothing to do with it in parliament. Today’s society cannot function without it because it creates an anomaly,” he said.

He added that those who are strong in their faith and do not believe in the divorce law, than they do not need to make use of it. “However, they do not have the right to stop those who are not of the same opinion as theirs,” Calamatta said.
