UHM demands meeting over GRTU survey on 'poor performance' of public sector

The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin (UĦM) has called for an urgent meeting with Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises (GRTU) representatives after the survey which showed a poor performance by Government departments.

The UHM said in a statement published this afternoon that it had requested for this meeting following the results of a GRTU survey among 200 members which showed that 68.4% of entrepreneurs had replied that the service that they received from Government department was poor.

The UHM today has already written to GRTU Director-General Vince Farrugia to hold this meeting.

The UĦM has expressed its “serious preoccupation” with the survey’s results regarding the service that was being given the Civil Service, where a majority of businesses had insisted that the vast majority of entrepreneurs had insisted that they were receiving a poor service.

“For UĦM this is worrying and has therefore asked the GRTU so that together, they analyse what led to this result from this survey,” the Union warned in its statement.

The Union explained how it wanted to know whether this was “only a perception, the result of excessive bureaucracy or rigid rules, or another reason”

The UHM warned that it would be following this process “to ensure that justice is done with Government workers” since it was convinced that “the absolute majority of Government workers offer a good and loyal service”.

At the same time, the UĦM wanted to find out where this service could be improved because it was “in everybody’s interest that this takes place”

The GRTU survey, published yesterday, showed that 0.4% of interviewees replied that service offered by Government departments was excellent, 4.8% replied that the service was good, 26.4% replied that the service was satisfactory, and that 68.4% replied that the service was poor.
