Zejtun murder ‘linked to a number of bomb attacks’
Sources say Peter Cassar could be linked to a number of bomb attacks in recent years.
Known to be a "bomb expert", police investigators believe Peter Cassar and his murder are linked to a number of bomb attacks in recent years.
Cassar, better known as Pietru l-Haqqa, manufactured most of the explosive devices used in a spate of bomb attacks over the last 40 years.
Cassar was murdered in Zejtun on Wednesday, after being shot to his neck and to his chest while in his garage in Triq Santa Marija.
Sources told MaltaToday that Cassar's murder is linked to a number of bomb attacks in recent years, such as the attack on the Transport Malta offices in Pieta and the attempted murders of known criminals Keith Galea and Paul Degabriele, known as is-Suldat.
Galea's car was blown up a few days after he was released from prison, having served time for attempted murder. In Degabriele's case (murdered last year), the bomb had been safely defused.
Cassar was a well-known explosives specialist, also thought to have manufactured a number of bombs at the height of the political violence in the 70s and 80s.
