An attempted hold-up took place on a lotto booth in Mensija road San Gwann.

MaltaToday is informed that the hold-up was unsuccessful and nothing was stolen. No one was injured.

The attempted hold-up allegedly took place around 1pm.

Police officers from the San Gwann police station were alerted by the owner, and promptly arrived to secure the booth.

The owner of the booth told MaltaToday that a man came to his booth and said it was a hold-up. "He was pointing what seemed as a revolver covered in a blue cloth. As soon as he said 'hold-up' he gestured towards his accomplice to come and help him and in that split second, I managed to close the window."

The booth only has a small window opening from where customers buy their tickets. It seems the culprits abandoned their plan after the owner's quick reaction.

This was the second attempted hold-up in 24hours after 1,ooo euro were stolen yesterday evening from Qormi.

Shortly after the hold-up, the middle-aged owner returned to his booth in good condition.

The area is still being monitored by a police officer.

Police are still investigating the case.
