Gzira's Council of Europe Garden and nearby parking spaces are among the areas subject to the tendering process of the privatisation of the Gzira Marina, Sunday newspaper ILLUM reveals.

Speaking to the sister newspaper, Gzira mayor Roberto Cristiano and Ta' Xbiex mayor Max Zammit confirmed that the local councils have been presented with the proposed privatisation of the Gzira garden.

"A meeting with the competent authorities regarding the Council of Europe Garden as well as the parking and the embellishment of areas surrounding the marina was held," Cristiano explained.

"As mayor I have been requested to attend a meeting to kick-start a consultation process tackling the Council of Europe Garden. The meeting relates to the tendering process of the Gzira Marina privatisation," the Gzira told ILLUM.

In light of the proposed privatisation, Nationalist MP Kristy Debono said she would table a set of parliamentary questions into the selling of a piece of public land.

"The Opposition, as well as local residents, expect a clear explanation from the Gzira and Ta' Xbiex local councils and also the government," Debono argued.

STOP privatizing PUBLIC property and re-nationalize what has already been privatized.

Franco shame on you. This is a public garden that has been enjoyed by the public for many, many generations. You should not sell off this public good for private gain. The ta' qali land has nothing to do with 'Il-Gnien'.

Franco, the person who should get a life is certainly yourself and not Kirsty. If you want to compare you have to compare apples with apples and not donkey's with apples. The embassy's ground where previously a block of shanty building used once every year for election purposes and not a beautiful place like the Ta;Xbiex , Gzira gardens where we take our children to play. You should have compared the embassy sold to the US with the Libjan Ta Giorni institute. However that one was given by Mintoff litellay free.

Very well said Kristy Debono. Keep up your good work.

Kristy you are really wet behind the ears, what about the large area sold to the USA embassy in Ta' Qali. Get a life Kristy or are you trying to impress somebody.
