Civil Protection Department and police officers rushed to Ta' Qali at around 10:50am where a structure supporting the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre's tent's lighting, collapsed.

The lighting structure was being set up to power the Gensna rock musical.

Emanuel Ronayne, 48 from Fgura, a father of two, was injured in the incident and has now been hospitalised. He was reported to be in danger of dying, suffering of serious chest injuries.

Three others, aged 26 from Kalkara, 31 from Cospicua, and 23 from Fgura, are being treated for light bruises and shock by emergency medics on site. One of the employees has however been hospitalised for further treatment.

The convention centre had only just finished hosting a fair for clothing directly on sale from warehouse stocks, but exhibitors are believed to have removed all exhibits.

RIU officers and emergency doctors are on site.
