The Nationalist Party today said that health minister Godfrey Farrugia’s surprise resignation expose prime minister Joseph Muscat’s “deceit.”

Reacting to the health minister Godfrey Farrugia’s resignation and parliamentary secretary Franco Mercieca’s revelation that he informed Muscat of his intention not be remain a Cabinet member weeks ago, the PN said that the “two resignations in the space of a few hours show the ugly side of Joseph Muscat’s leadership.”

The PN drew a parallel on how Muscat “used and disposed of” Farrugia and Mercieca and government’s plans to berth the LNG storage vessel in the Marsaxlokk harbour.

The opposition also accused Muscat of “creating all imaginable obstacles” to hinder Farrugia and of concealing Mercieca’s request to be left out of the Cabinet following the imminent reshuffle.

“A prime minister who conceals the resignation of a member of Cabinet from the people is a prime minister who put his own political interest above the people’s interests.”

These events flew in the face of Muscat’s promise to have the best Cabinet in history, the PN added.
