Scouts celebrate St George's Day

Scouts from the three Maltese districts - North, South and Central - held their annual parade in Valletta, where they saluted the newly appointed president.

All Scout groups in Malta yesterday gathered at the Granaries in Floriana to set up for their annual parade, better known as St George’s Day.

As thousands of scouts, guides, brownies and cubs made their final preparations for their big day, relatives buzzed around tying an untidy scarf here, fixing a woggle there and lending a helping hand when needed. For a number of little ones, this was their first annual parade and judging by the pride with which they marched, it will surely not be their last.

The parade, led by the Scout Band from the St Venera Unit, made its way to City Gate and down Republic Street. Newly appointed President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca received the Scout’s salute as the parade marched past the Grand Master's palace. The Chief Scout and the Chief Guide were at the President’s side.

The groups, each marching behind its colours, then turned onto Archbishop Street, up Merchant’s Street and broke off at Castille Square.
