New MFA President meets Education Minister

Ministry for Education and the Family Dolores Cristina has congratulated new MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo on his appointment as new MFA President on 7 August 2010 after an eighteen-year reign of outgoing MFA President Joe Mifsud.

During the meeting with Darmanin-Demajo this morning, she extended her support to the Association’s work in the interest of the football game.

Cristina also pledge more support for the work that was made by this association so that more children and youths are enticed to participate in this popular sport which leads them to live a healthy life and without vices.

The Minister pledged that State Schools should be used by the community, “including clubs and football nurseries and other sporting associations, following agreement with the respective heads of school”.

On his part, Darmanin-Demajo thanked Cristina for this meeting and for “the cooperation that it is extending to the Association,” an Education Ministry statement explained.

He also assured her that the MFA was ready to give its contribution towards a more healthy society through sport and announced that it was ready to continue investing in this sector if it finds the required cooperation.

Earlier, Darmanin-Demajo had another meeting with Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sports Clyde Puli, during which he presented the MFA’s plans for the next few years.

He mentioned that there were various areas where there could be more cooperation between the Government and the MFA.

The new MFA President expressed his wish that every club had an adequate sporting facility and that better use is made of the National Stadium.

He also spoke about the need for training for sports administrators so that professionalism in sport is increased.

On his part, Puli pledged the Government’s support to the MFA and augured that the Government and this sporting association work together to modernise sporting administration in our country.
