A traffic accident in Regional Road near the Zammit Clapp Hospital entrance caused traffic congestion with cars lining up to St Julian's.

The accident happened at 1:40pm when a 20-year-old from Munxar, Gozo was driving a delivery van towards Msida. He was said to have  applied the brakes to slow down when the van swerved to the right and ended up on the centre-strip.

Video is unavailable at this time.

The accident happened in front of the eyes of Police Constable Lawrence Pulis who was on his way to start his duty at the Malta International Airport where he is stationed with the Immigration Section. PC Pulis stopped and gave first-aid assistance to the young driver and also called for medical help.

In a few minutes an ambulance with a nurse arrived on the spot and took the driver to Mater Dei Hospital. His condition is not yet known but he looked like he was suffering from a shock.

The van sustained damages mostly to the front wheels.

PC Matthew Azzopardi from the Traffic Police helped PC Pulis to direct the traffic which piled up in few minutes until further helped arrived.

The District Police are investigating the accident.
