A 22-year-old woman from Swieqi was involved in a traffic accident in the early hours of the morning, when her Volkswagon Golf was driven into the traffic lights situated at the entrance to Paceville on Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, in St Julian's.

The accident might have been the cause of another accident later on, in which a 38-year-old woman suffered grievous injuries.

The first accident happened at 2:40am. when the youth from Swieqi lost control of his car, hit the centre-strip and also the traffic lights. The driver did not suffer any injuries but the traffic lights were damaged and could no longer function.

This might have caused the second accident when at 7:45am a Toyota HiLux driven by a 30-year-old man from St Julian's was turning towards Paceville. At the same time a Kia Proceed, driven by a 23-year-old female from Qormi, was going towards Pembroke and they collided.

A female passenger, 38 from St Julian's, who was in the Toyota, was conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from grievous injuries.

District Police are investigating both accidents.
