Government today issued a statement after sections of the media misreported what Malta's representative on the European Court of Auditors Louis Galea said during a meeting earlier today.

Denying reports that the EU has kicked off procedures to recoup funds which were misused by Malta, government clarified that Galea at no point said that he is informed of any such procedure but he was only explaining the possible consequences of if funds were used irregularly.

Adding that Galea was explaining the “final corrections” system, government said that such procedures are normally monitored by the European Commission and not the European Court of Auditors.
