Police force to increase firearms training for its officers
Only 23 district officers received firearms training between 1 June 2013 and September 2014

188 district officers underwent four hours of training in the use of firearms between October and November 2014.
In reply to a question by shadow home affairs minister Jason Azzopardi, newly appointed minister Carmelo Abela also said that, between June 2013 and September 2014, only 23 district officers received three days of training in the use of firearms.
The minister went on to add that he had already met Police Commissioner Michael Cassar in discussing the required training for officers.
“We both agreed that the members of the police force should receive more frequent and relevant training in both practical and theoretical form,” Abela said.
