Labour says government employing more people in public service

Labour deputy leader for parliamentary affairs Anglu Farrugia has accused Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi of “employing more people with government”.

Farrugia said the Labour Force Survey published this morning by the NSO showed that the total number of employees increased by 4.164 when compared to the previous year.

However, if one analysed the statistics better, “one will find that 3,819 or 92% of the whole increase, came from jobs with Government or the public sector,” the Labour Deputy leader charged.

“Since Lawrence Gonzi has repeatedly boasted that his aim is to reduce the amount of Government employees, it would be fine if he explained this fact that has resulted from the Labour Force Survey,” Farrugia insisted.
