Update: Elderly driver suffers only slight injuries, is discharged from Mater Dei

A 77-year-old Siġġiewi man has been hospitalised after he was involved in a car crash shortly after 9am this morning at Valletta Road, Żurrieq.

A police statement issued shortly before 5pm announced that the man had been suffering from light injuries and was discharged from Mater Dei after he was medically treated.

The other driver, a 26-year-old Fgura man, also suffered minor injuries and he was not taken to Mater Dei Hospital, but only to a nearby Health Centre, MaltaToday has learnt.

Initial police investigations on site had show that the 77-year-old was driving a Peugeot 306 while the other driver was driving a Toyota Yaris in the opposite direction when for some “unknown reason” the two cars had a collision.

The Peugeot 306 was driving from Dun Ġużepp Road in the direction of Valletta Road, while the Yaris was driving in Valletta Road in the direction of Żurrieq.

An ambulance was immediately dispatched on site to take the septuagenarian driver to Mater Dei Hospital.

Police investigations about this case were still ongoing.
