In the Press: Malta-Sicily interconnector inaugurated

PM Joseph Muscat yesterday praised his predecessor's vision for the energy sector, saying that former PM Lawrence Gonzi 'got it right' with the interconnector project. The finished project was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of Muscat and his Italian counterpart Matteo Renzi.

Voters will go to the polls tomorrow to decide on the fate of spring hunting while half the island will also be holding local council elections. Voting will take place between 7am and 10pm tomorrow.

Exports from Malta to China and African countries saw the largest increased during the first two months of the year. Exports to Australia and Oceania also saw a small increase.

A European environment outlook report for 2015 has highlighted a possible increase in heatwaves in southern Europe. The increased frequency and intensity of these weather events could lead to an increase in heat-attributable deaths if preventive measures are not taken.
