Zarb insists two pre-budget discussions with social partners on MCESD ‘not enough’
General Workers’ Union (GWU) Secretary-General Tony Zarb insisted more than once that in the Budget 2011, the Union expected that the Government should reduce burdens from the Maltese people, especially on those who were most in need.
Zarb was speaking during a discussion organised yesterday by leftist NGO Zminijietna, for which the top brass from the GWU, UHM, and FORUM were invited, which was reported in the GWU weekly paper It-Torca this morning.
He recalled how the Nationalist Government had promised that every three months, it would give an account to the social partners of what had been implemented or not from the previous budget, however this meeting took only part once and was not held anymore.
The GWU chief explained that it was positive that a pre-budget consultation was held, however he insisted that this dialogue “should not neither false nor a farce”
Zarb insisted that the two meetings allocated by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech for pre-budget consultations with the MCESD were “not enough”.
The GWU Secretary-General slammed the proposed COLA increase of €1.16 as “not sufficient”.
