A secretly extended encroachment permit has put plans to expand the Siggiewi civi centre in jeopardy. The Siggiewi Labour Party club paid just over €1,000 to secure the permit, valid until August next year, without the knowledge of the local council.

PN deputy leader Mario De Marco said that in parliament this evening, the Opposition would show how the budget could have been better. Opposition leader Simon Busuttil is due to present the Opposition's reply tonight.

At a political event yesterday, PM Joseph Muscat said that this year's budget was proof that the government had done away with the tendency for governments to release good budgets only when an election is due.

The pressure has mounted on the European Central Bank to keep the euro from slipping into a downwards spiral of deflation amid falling prices across the eurozone. The ECB's governing council is expected in Malta this week.
