During a meeting with Prime Minister Aleksander Vučić Malta expressed interest in investing in Serbia in the energy sector.

Accompanied by Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and his chief of staff Keith Schembri, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening met the Serbian Prime Minister with the aim of starting talks on investment opportunities.

Malta hopes to have a similar investment to that being carried out in Montenegro. Renewable Energy Development Ltd – a joint venture between Enemalta and Shanghai Electric Power – has won a contract to develop the first wind farm project in Mozura.

Muscat and Vučić agreed that their respective energy ministers should meet to discuss cooperation in the energy sector.

In comments to the national broadcaster, Muscat said Malta supports Serbia’s bid for EU membership.

On his part, Vučić said he viewed Malta as “a friend”.

While in Serbia, Muscat will also watch the Malta national waterpolo team’s opening game against France at the European Waterpolo Championship.

Muscat will then go to neighbouring Montenegro, where he will hold official talks with President Filip Vujanović and Prime Minister Milo Đukanović.
