The home affairs ministry has launched a call for the first ever chief executive officer for the Maltese police force.

The CEO will enter into a three-year contract, with a salary of €55,000.

No specific educational requirements have been listed for the post, although due consideration will be given to applicants with relevant work experience and academic qualifications.

The CEO will work alongside the Commissioner of Police to bring about policy goals, improve internal work culture, and handle management and administration operations.

The ministry said the candidate must have the “right acumen, aptitude, leadership skills to engage and motivate the police force.”

"A modern police force is not only one which sees continuous investment in its assets but also one which is able to capitalise on the talent of its human resources," minister Carmelo Abela said.

He added that rge new CEO would introduce a managerial role that would modernise the police corps’ structure, implement police force vision, and allow the Commissioner of Police to concentrate on police investigations.
