The Labour Party has challenged PN leader Simon Busuttil to take action against PN MP Claudio Grech over statements made to the Public Accounts Committee during its investigation into the Enemalta oil scandal, which were today belied by pardoned oil trader, George Farrugia.

Farrugia today told the court that he had met former transport minister Austin Gatt on several occasions to discuss issues related to fuel procurement, directly contradicting Gatt's denials that such meetings ever took place.

The PL said that, appearing before the PAC, Grech had denied ever meeting Farrugia; but when asked in court today, Farrugia said that he had met Grech once.

Emails published by MaltaToday revealed that Grech had met Farrugia on more than one occasion.

Grech, who before 2013 served in Gatt’s personal secretariat, had told the PAC that if he had ever met Farrugia, “then it definitely would have been something not worth recalling”.

It also emerged that Grech had met the Farrugia family when the oil scandal erupted.

“If Simon Busuttil wants to be credible, then he must take action against Grech,” the PL said.
