A few hundred demonstrators walked through Republic Street in Valletta this evening, in honour of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia who was killed exactly one month ago.

The activists congregated in front of the parliament building holding placards reading: “Her fight, my voice”, “delayed justice won’t wear us down”, and “change?”.

Despite the rain, those present walked down Republic Street, stopping in front of a memorial for the slain journalist at the foot of the Great Siege monument in front of the law courts.

Many of those present placed candles, flowers and the placards they were carrying in front of the monument before singing the national anthem together.

In a brief statement, the demonstration’s organisers urged those present not to give up in their fight for justice, and to never be afraid to stand up for their beliefs, whatever they may be.

Caruana Galizia was brutally murdered using a car bomb as she was leaving her house in Bidnija on 16 October. News of the journalist’s killing quickly spread across the globe eliciting the condemnation of journalists and lawmakers.

The press room at the European Parliament in Strasbourg has since been named after the late journalist.

A number of politicians were present for the demonstration including former PN leader Simon Busuttil, former PD leader Marlene Farrugia, and PN MPs Karol Aquilina, Beppe Fenech Adami and Therese Comodini Cachia.

Caruana Galizia’s sister Corinne Vella, and her husband peter were also present.
