No injuries were reported when a boundary wall in the main courtyard of San Anton Palace collapsed during the night, the Office of the President said.

It is unclear what caused the wall to collapse but an inquiry is underway.

Cars parked in the courtyard are believed to have sustained some damage.

The palace is the official residence of the President.

The public gardens at San Anton have been closed off as a safety precaution.

The Office of the President said that the restorations directorate was “looking into the technical side of the matter”. No further details were given.
