Summer months saw 1.8 million passengers crossing between Malta and Gozo

The National Statistics Office says that passengers and cars travelling between the islands increased by 6.3% and 7.6% respectively between July and September

Almost 1.8 million passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo between July and September, a third of which did so in August.

The third quarter figures out today registered an increase of 6.3% when compared to the same period in 2017.

The National Statistics Office reported that 620,042 passengers travelled between the islands in August, which is characteristically marked by the Santa Maria exodus from Malta. 

The figures show that the number of vehicles that crossed also increased by 7.6% during the period.

The number of trips operated by Gozo Channel amounted to 6,764, an increase of 6.8 per cent over the same quarter in 2017. Most trips took place in August.

The ferry company carried 4.4 million passengers in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 7.4%

The NSO said passenger traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Friday and Saturday, whereas the highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday.
