Woman grievously injured in St Julians

A 33-year-old Brazilian woman has been grievously injured after an altercation with a man on Sunday night.  

At around 2:45am the police were informed that assistance was needed in Triq Santa Rita in St Julians. 

According to a statement by the police, initial investigations showed that an argument allegedly occurred between a 24-year-old Syrian, and a 33-year-old Brazilian woman, both residing in Malta.

The man was detained by the police and taken to the St Julians police station , while the woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. She was confirmed to have suffered severe injuries.

The police said that while being detained the man became aggressive and caused slight injuries to a police constable and threatened other members of the police force.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
