Bank of Valletta’s website went temporarily offline on Tuesday morning, weeks after the bank was hit by a massive cyber attack.

However the bank said in a statement that it was experiencing internet connectivity issues that were affecting its electronic channels, "mainly services relating to internet banking, mobile banking, and card payments through its EPOS machines and the website".

"The Bank is working to solve these technical issues in the shortest possible time," BOV said.

Earlier this month, the bank was forced to shut down all its systems, including its ATMs and point of sales system after a breach of its system was detected.

The bank had decided to shut down its systems after it received confirmation from the Malta Security Services that it had been the victim of a cyber attack.
