Malta Developers Association (MDA) said that it has received a number of complaints from disappointed purchasers of residential units who bought properties 'on plan.'

"[They] later found out that they did not get what they expected," MDA said in a statement on Wednesday, as they explained that many would opt to buy residential units on plan (before they are actually built) since these would be naturally cheaper than ones already developed.

"Doing so has its risks... for a number of years, MDA has lobbied with the authorities for the establishment of a register of approved developers to ensure that rogue developers are easily identified by the general public," the statement read.

In the absence of such a list, the MDA has advised would-be buyers to take legal and architectural advice if they are considering buying a residential unit 'on plan' so as to avoid any future disappointment that could lead to "complicated" legal action.
