Qormi back on track

Qormi are back to winning ways after they defeated Mqabba 4-1 yesterday evening.

This victory was a boost for Qormi as it still leaves them with a chance to secure a place in the Championship Pool.

Qormi immediately showed their dominance as they took the lead on the 8th minute. Joseph Farrugia served Joseph Chectuti who then has his shot partially saved by goalkeeper Kris Calleja. Jorge Pereira da Silva was there to pick up the rebound and score.

Qormi were then awarded a penalty when the referee notice a foul by Kris Calleja on Jorge Pereira inside the area. Qormi failed to take advantage as Mqabba's goalkeeper Kris Calleja saved Joseph Farrugia's effort from the penalty spot.

Seven minutes into the second half, Qormi managed to double the score when off a cross by Jorge Pereira da Silva, Jonathan Bondin headed the ball past the Mqabba goalkeeper.

Jorge Pereira da Silva scored his second goal of the match to make it 3-0 on the 72nd minute.

Matters were made worse for Mqabba as they had to play with ten men in the last 15 minutes of the match after Julian Briffa left the match due to injury. Coach Clive Mizzi could not Briffa him after he already used up his three substitutions.

On the 80th minute, Mqabba managed to score a consolation goal.  Off a pass by Marko Potezica, John Nwoba managed to beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with his shot.

Mqabba had Mark Anthony Psaila sent off after he received his second yellow card on the 87th minute.

In added time, Qormi made it 4-1 after Triston Caruana served Caio Garcia who then had his powerful shot from inside the area beat goalkeeper Kris Calleja.

Qormi now sit just one point behind Balzan Youths who still have a game in hand while Mqabba remain in eighth place with 20 points.

Jorge Pereira da Silva was voted BOV Player of the Match.
