Hibernians put six past Mqabba

A dominant Hibernians side defeated Mqabba 6-1. With this victory, Hibernians start the Championship Pool in second place while Mqabba will be playing in the Relegation Pool.

Hibernians started the match on the attack going close on a number of occasions.

Hibernians finally took the lead on the 16th minute when Marcelo Dias scored from close range.

Mqabba were back into the match on the 20th minute. Off a Claudio Calleja corner, Bojan Mamic headed the ball in past goalkeeper Mario Muscat.

Hibernians did not wait long to regain the lead as on the 29th minute off a corner by Claudio Calleja, the ball was deflected in the net by a Mqabba defender for a own goal.

On the 30th minute, Mqabba went close when Thiago Mazzitelli's freekick was partially saved by goalkeeper Mario Muscat to have David Azzopardi pick up the rebound. But  Azzopardi's his effort on goal was cleared to safety by the Hibernians goalkeeper.

Hibernians extended their lead on the 37th minute. Edison Luis dos Santos served Edward Herrera who then headed the ball in past goalkeeper Franklin Azzopardi.

Hibernians were awarded a penalty on the 43rd minute. Branislav Timotic brought Edison Luis dos Santos down inside the area to have the referee point to the penalty spot. Dos Santos made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 4-1.

In the final seconds of the first half, Hibernians practically put the match out of reach for Mqabba. Edison Luis dos Santos served Marcelo Dias who then released a powerful shot to leave no chance for goalkeeper Franklin Azzopardi.

On the 48th minute, Hibernians scored the final goal of the match to make it 6-1. Andrew Cohen's freekick was intercepted by Peter Anizoba who then served Edward Herrera having the latter find the back of the net with his shot.

Marcelo Dias was voted BOV Player of the Match.
