Melita edge closer to relegation

Qormi put in a good performance to defeat Melita 3-1. With this result, Qormi strengthened their chances to remain in the Premier League as they sit just three points behind Floriana while Melita remain at the bottom of the standings.

Qormi had a good opportunity to score after just five minutes of play when Moises Avila Perez had his header go high.

Melita were unlucky not to score on the 33rd minute when Daniel Cabanillas Ayllon's shot hit the woodwork.

Melita would be made to regret their missed chance when Qormi took the lead on the 42nd minute. Alfred Effiong served Moises Avila Perez who then dribbled past a defender to shoot past goalkeeper Guillermo Gabilondo Garcia.

The second half did not start as planned for Melita when referee Clayton Pisani sent Matthew Borg off.

The decision did not go down well with Melita's coach Patxi Salinas and the referee ordered the latter to leave the bench.

Qormi scored their second goal on the 75th minute when Edison Bilboa Zarate served Leighton Grech with the latter having no problem finding the back of the net with his shot.

Melita managed to reduce the gap on the 84th minute when off a header by Ivan Tufegdzic, Julian Galea beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with his shot from the left.

Melita had another player sent off on the 89th minute when Manuel Ramon Sierra Camacho brought Leighton Grech down inside the area. The referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Camacho received his second yellow card and was sent off. From thepenalty spot, Alfred Effiong easily converted to make the final score 3-1.

Leighton Grech was voted BOV Player of the Match.
