Gilmar double gives Naxxar victory over Qormi

Naxxar Lions managed to defeat Qormi 2-1 to register their first win of the season.

Two minutes into the match, Naxxar had their first attempt on goal when Andre Roch Da Silva had his shot go high over the crossbar.

Naxxar managed to take the lead on the 18th minute. A perfect freekick by Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro left no chance for goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Naxxar wanted to make sure they collected all three points as after just two minutes later the doubled the score. Gilmar scored his second goal of the match when he dribbled the ball past the Qormi defence to then beat goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia with his shot.

Qormi tried their luck on goal when Duncan Pisani’s effort was deflected by goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi.

On the 26th minute Andre Rocha da Silva’s was denied a goal by the woodwork.

Qormi managed to reduce the gap three minutes into added time of the first half.

Off a corner by Roderick Bajada, Roderick Sammut managed to beat goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi with his shot.

In the second half both teams had numerous opportunities to score but the resulted ended with Naxxar taking home all three points.

Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro was voted BOV Player of the Match.
