Birkirkara continue positive run as Tarxien defeat Hibernians

Birkirkara took the lead on the 10^th minute when Terence Vella scored from the penalty spot. Ivan Carapic brought Terence Vella down inside the area to have referee Kevin Azzopardi point to the penalty spot.

Birkirkara found the back of the net again on the 33^rd minute. A shot from Paul Fenech was not saved by goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi to make the score 2-0.

Birkirkara continued to press and on the 54^th minute, Edward Herrera served Terence Vella and the latter easily beat goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi with his shot.

Rabat had a chance on goal when they were awarded a freekick. Clifford Gauci's attempt was deflected into a corner.

On the 73^rd minute, Rabat finally managed to reduce the gap. Clifford Gauci's powerful shot from outside the area was deflected by a defender and went past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

On the 85^th minute, Birkirkara's Demba Toure's shot was blocked by goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi but off the rebound Paul Fenech easily scored.

Rabat were not finished yet as with one minute remaining Aidan Azzopardi managed to surprise goalkeeper Justin Haber when he scored off a corner.

Vittoriosa Stars 1

A clash between two teams that are trying to move up the table went in Balzan's favour as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-1.

The first half started with both teams having numerous attempts on goal, but none were successful.

Balzan finally managed to take the lead on the 32^nd minute when Luis Armario Negrin scored from close range.

Vittoriosa mamanged to score the equaliser in added time of the first half. Jose Filipe Aguiar had his powerful shot from outside the area beat goalkeeper Michael Falzon.

The second half started with Vittoriosa going close to taking the lead. A header by Oscar Guerrero off a freekick by Marcel Teruel but goalkeeper Michael Falzon managed to deflect the ball into a corner.

Balzan regained the lead on the 58^th minute. Armario Negrin dribbled the ball past the goalkeeper serving Lydon Micallef who then easily placed the ball in a empty net.

On the 63^rd minute Balzan went close to scoring again when Joselito dos Reis Santos hit the woodwork with his shot.

Balzan managed to protect their lead to take home all three points.

Hibernians 0

Tarxien Rainbows 1

Hibernians unbeaten record came to an end as Tarxien Rainbows managed to defeat the Premier League leaders by a single goal.

Tarxien were the better team from the start as Miguel Ciantar and Jorge Santos Silva had two good chances on goal.

The pressure of Tarxien finally paid off as on the 12^th minute they managed to take the lead. Off a corner, Ronaille Calheira Seara beat goalkeeper Mario Muscat with his header.

Hibernians, being one goal down finally started to take control of the match.

After having numerous attempt on goal, the closest Hibernians came to scoring was on the 65^th minute when Marcelo Dias hit the woodwork with his shot.

Tarxien's defence and goalkeeping were in top for to keep Hibernians from scoring to hand them their first defeat of the season.

Floriana 1

Naxxar Lions 0

Floriana are finally starting to close in for a place in the Championship Pool as they defeated Naxxar Lions 1-0.

Floriana had the first real shot on goal on the 22^nd minute when Steve Pisani went close to scoring, but his shot went just wide.

Naxxar had an attempt on goal on the 36^th minute but Daren Falzon's shot was saved by goalkeeper Daniel Hanford.

Floriana managed to take the lead on the 43^rd minute. A shot by Diogo Pinheiro was deflected by Naxxar's Pablo Doffo to end up going past goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi.

Floriana protected their lead till the match ended enabling them to share seventh place with Balzan and Tarxien Rainbows.
